OCT. 16, 1955- AUG. 6, 2022
Leonard Kenton Turner, affectionately known as
“Ken”, “Dad”, and “Big Daddy,” returned home to
his Lord, at the age of 66, on Saturday, August
6, 2022.
A celebration of life service will be held
Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at
Eastmont Baptist Church with Rev. Michael
Northcutt officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour
prior at 1:00 p.m.
Ken was born October 16, 1955, in Montgomery,
Alabama, to Charles Henderson Turner and
Sarah Phillips Turner. He is predeceased by his
parents and a brother in law, Lee Killough.
Growing up in Montgomery, he was the third
child of Charlie and Sarah, and the younger
brother of Lisa and Bubba. After attending
Robert E. Lee, in 1975, Ken joined the
Air National Guard. Through his training at
Kessler Air Force Base, he excelled in
communications and electronics systems
principles. His military training and expertise led
him to faithfully serve his country in satellite
communication and missile technology in the
War in Afghanistan.
Ken’s personality made him an exceptional
salesman for several years. His other interests
included sports, hunting, cooking, and music.
Besides his career, he enjoyed coaching baseball
and umpiring where he developed many
friendships and he loved the Alabama Crimson
Tide! His love for hunting deer was only made
more special when he could spend time with his
son and later his granddaughter. He began
cooking at an early age creating homemade
pizzas and continuing on when he perfected his
recipe of Chicken-n-dumplings to mimic his
mother’s.
The most important thing to Ken was that he
was saved by the blood of Jesus and was quick
to give all the glory to God for his salvation. He
loved to play guitar and would sing hymns at
nursing homes through serving at Faith Rescue
Mission. Second to his love of God, was the love
he had for all of his family. From his children,
Jeni and Hunter and their spouses Leo and
Summer- to his “angels”- granddaughters,
Harper and Sayler Kate- Ken would not hesitate
to express about how blessed he was for them,
as well as his extended family.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer
Maurelli (Leo); son, Hunter Turner (Summer);
sister, Lisa Killough; brother, Charles (Bubba)
Turner (Lundi); granddaughters, Harper and
Sayler Kate Turner; grandson, Cruz Maurelli;
nieces, April Anderson (Chad), Amy Blake (Paul),
Heather Carroll (Clint); nephew, Andrew Turner;
several great nieces and nephews. Special
friends, Candace Barber, her daughter- Blake,
and grandson- James Allen.
