
Lewis Hall McCurdy, Sr., 94, a resident of Lowndesboro, AL, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Rhon Carlton officiating. Burial will follow at Oakview Cemetery in Lowndesboro, AL at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Crawford McCurdy and brother, Edward Sellers McCurdy, Jr. Mr. McCurdy is survived by his wife, Doris B. McCurdy, sons, Lewis H. McCurdy, Jr. (Nancy), Billy McCurdy (Pam), David C. McCurdy; step-children, Henry Strong (Susan) and Elaine Acree (Allen); five grandchildren: Lewis H. McCurdy, III, Elizabeth M. Koisch, Will McCurdy, Mary Owens McCurdy and Whit Strong; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Eva Milligan, brother, Caswell McCurdy (Jean), sister-in-law, Hazel McCurdy and a number of nieces and nephews. He was born in Lowndesboro, AL, and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in 1938, and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer and was fundamental with the beginning of Southern United Life Insurance Co., a member of the Alabama Cattleman’s Association and the Southeastern Livestock Exposition. He was a charter member of the McCurdy Horse Association. He served on the board of the First South Production Credit Association and was a member of the Historical Society of Lowndes County. He was a charter board member of Lowndes Academy. He was a member of Frazer United Methodist Church since 1983 and a member of the Jack Thompson Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lowndes Academy Trust Fund, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Lowndesboro, AL, or to one’s favorite charity. Active and honorary pallbearers will be Lewis McCurdy, III, Will McCurdy, Mac McCurdy, Ed McCurdy, Keith McCurdy, Reese McCurdy, Cas McCurdy, Garrett McCurdy, John Milligan, Eddie Lee Milligan, Roy Crawford, George Crawford, Jimmy Barnes, Johnny Barnes and Whit Strong. Arrangements under the direction of Leak Memory Chapel, Montgomery, AL.
