Lonnie is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughters Lyn Holt (Larry), Layne Matthews (Jeff) and grandchildren Adam Holt (Jenna), Jennifer Holt and James Matthews; and nephew Raymond Caliguire (Mary) and Raymond’s children Shaina (Craig) and Mario.
Lonnie was born on December 27, 1927 in Monroeville, AL to Lonnie & Flora Etta Wiggins. He served in the United States Army prior to attending Alabama Polytechnic Institute and receiving a degree in Architecture. Lonnie married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1954 and they moved to Tallahassee, FL prior to settling in Montgomery, AL and Lonnie practiced commercial architecture until his retirement in 2007. He and Barbara enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
His children and grandchildren remember him as one of the most kind, loving and true southern gentlemen, a man who loved his family, God and community, enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, and was the biggest Auburn fan. He was an active and dedicated member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Family and friends are invited to an open viewing at 1PM at White Chapel-Greenwood on Wednesday, August 2, followed by the service in the chapel and burial at Greenwood cemetery with military honors. Brother Paul Hubbard will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend the casual service (blue jeans are acceptable and Auburn shirts or colors are appreciated!) to celebrate Lonnie’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the great staff and caregivers at John Knox Manor and Angels for the Elderly, and Baptist South Hospital for the many great years of care.
Arrangements under the direction of White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, Montgomery, AL.
