

She was born June 11, 1924 to Frank James Lewis and Minnie Hamilton Lewis in Pleasant Hill (Sardis) Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Rutherford Pouncey, and her sister, Bettie Watkins Lewis.
She is survived by her sister, Ella Belle Lewis Smith, and is survived by her children Theodore Hamilton Pouncey (Cullie), Bettie Gail Pouncey Young (John), and Janine Pouncey Bryant (Steve); her grandchildren Thomas Pouncey, Justin Pouncey (Lana), Josh Pouncey (Rene), Jonathon Pouncey (Blair), Susan Pouncey Latham (Steve), Ashley Young Puthoff (Jaremy), Abby Young McMaster (Eric), Adam Young (Annastasia), Brooks Bryant (Laura), and Jay Bryant (Lee Ann); 19 great grandchildren, 2 step grandsons, 1 nephew, 2 nieces, and 1 step grandniece.
Lula graduated from Alabama College (now University of Montevallo) with a degree in Social Work. She retired after 29 years as a Child Welfare Supervisor with the Montgomery County DHR (Dept. of Human Resources) helping countless children and families in need. She was a long time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (now Messiah Lutheran) where she taught Sunday School for several years and willingly served in various leadership roles there and in her community. She and Daddy were worldwide travelers and especially loved the countries of Europe.
The family is eternally grateful to the administration and staffs at The Belmont and Haven at Halcyon assisted living facilities for their love, tender care and devotion to our mother.
There will be a family and friends visitation at Leak Memory on Monday, February 2 from 4:00-6:00 P.M.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 3 at 11:00 A.M., Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 3201 County Rd. 12 , Sardis, AL 36775. A memorial service in the church will follow.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Thomas Pouncey, Justin Pouncey, Josh Pouncey, Jonathon Pouncey, Brooks Bryant and Jay Bryant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Donna Rives, 2911 County Rd. 12, Sardis, AL 36775. Memorials may also be made to South Dallas Historic Preservation Association, Inc. at the same address.
