Born in Belton, South Carolina, she was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Belton, SC, First Baptist Church of Williamston, SC, First Baptist Church of Opelika, AL., and Vaughn Forest Church, Montgomery, AL. She served as the director of the childcare center at the First Baptist Church of Williamston, SC, for many years. She and her husband, Ray, moved from their home in Belton in 1995 to be close to their grandchildren. She devoted her life to her Savior, family, and church. She loved to sew and cook and blessed many people with her talents.
Surviving are her daughter Susan and her husband John of Montgomery, AL, grandchildren Austin Gaines and his wife Jeannie, Collin Gaines, and Lauren Gaines Daniels and her husband Jared, great-grandchildren John Rowell Gaines, John Patrick Daniels, and a third great-grandchild on the way for Austin and Jeannie, brother Ray Murphy, and sisters-in-law Patsy Murphy and Grace Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mamie Murphy, husband Ray, sisters Rachel, Ruth, and Marie, and brothers Louie, Clyde, and Joel.
A graveside service will be on Saturday, September 7, at 10:00 a.m., at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Belton, SC. In lieu of flowers, you may send memorials to Shady Grove Baptist Church, 1201 Shady Grove Rd, P.O. Box 806, Belton, SC 29627.
