A humble and faithful Lamb of God, Jeannine Carr of Montgomery passed over on February 3, 2014 at age 80. Born Margaret Jeannine Powley, Jeannine was the daughter of Charles Powley and Eva Tillapaugh Powley and sister of Mary Alice Powley Tebo, all of whom are greeting her in heaven, where she is surely already quietly busy making all around her even more comfortable.
A native of Detroit Michigan, the young Jeannine married sweetheart and fellow Detroit Redford High School graduate Frank William (Bill) King, now deceased, and was the former wife of the late Charles Carr of Montgomery.
Jeannine's most difficult burden was the unbearable fact that she was predeceased by her youngest and much-adored son, Scott Allen Carr, after his sudden death in 2005. She is survived by loving children, daughter Jennifer King of Snellville, Georgia, son Donald A. King of Marietta, Georgia, his wife Sue and a stepson, Lands Carr and wife Doris of Panama City, Florida. Jeannine also leaves behind grandson Jason Neilson and his wife Rebecca of Duluth, Georgia, her granddaughter Alyson Neilson and wife Debbie Inman, grandson Colt Thompson of Arkansas, grandson Michael Scott Carr of Birmingham, Alabama. as well as great-granddaughter Abbigale Neilson Inman of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
While always a proud and consummate homemaker in the grand old-school tradition, Jeannine also periodically worked outside the home as a medical technician and real estate agent. But those who knew her best will enjoy the lasting memory of 'Granola" the trained nutritionist and determined advocate of a healthy lifestyle for all. Ever curious and thirsty for knowledge, Jeannine returned to her education as an adult empty-nester. In 1990, she graduated with honors from Troy State University at Montgomery with a BS and in 1991 received her Master's degree in counseling and human development.
All who were lucky enough to know her agreed that there was never a more gracious example of Southern hospitality and innate kindness. After relocating to Montgomery in 1960, Jeannine was well-known around Lake Martin as a cheerful summer resident, avid rock collector, patient "Den-mother" and for her hikes through the woods.
The world is indeed a lesser place with her passing. Godspeed, "Nee-Nee." Rest in peace, Mother Dear. We all miss you.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Greenwood cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm. While flowers are welcomed, as an alternative, the family suggests donations to Montgomery's Family Sunshine Center for battered women, dedicated to the memory of Jeannine Carr.
