

Margaret Fitton Hixon (86), of Montgomery, AL, passed away on July 22, 2025 after an extended illness. A funeral service will be held on July 26 at 2:00 pm at Frazer Methodist Church with a visitation an hour prior. Dr. John Ed Mathison and Rev. Allen Huff will be officiating. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Margaret was born in Washington, D.C., on January 5, 1939, and grew up there with her parents and older sister. She attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, graduating in 1960. While at William and Mary, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After teaching elementary school for two years in the Washington D.C. area, Margaret married her husband, John Hixon, in 1963. They eventually settled in John's hometown of Montgomery, Alabama and raised their family there.
Margaret later returned to teaching and taught 5th grade at Dannelly Elementary School in Montgomery for 13 years. After retiring from Dannelly, Margaret continued pursuit of her love of teaching children through the Children's Ministry at Memorial Presbyterian Church and as a history teacher at Alabama Old Town.
Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law and sister-in-law. She lived to serve her family and others. She was characterized by her love, kindness, and joy toward everyone she encountered. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Douglas Fitton and Gertrude Fitton and her in-laws, Joseph Franklin Hixon and Mattie Lou Salter Hixon. Margaret is survived by her husband, John Hixon Sr., her children: John Hixon Jr., (Leigh Ann), Doug Hixon (Elise), and Edward Hixon (Lauren); Eight grandchildren: Joseph Hixon, Mark Hixon, Anna Hixon, Josh Hixon, Robert Hixon, David Hixon (Kennedy), John Charles Hixon, and Mary Grace Hixon; her sister, Ann Reisinger (Carl); her sister-in-law, Anne Huff; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their utmost thanks to all of Margaret's caregivers who have lovingly and faithfully cared for her.
