Marjorie Ruth Delbridge Spain has taken her place in heaven with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, after 83 years on earth. She passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. Marjorie was the daughter of Will Frank & Marjorie Zeigler Delbridge and was born on August 26, 1937. She worked as an LPN for much of her adult life, but what she really loved was her husband, James Houston Spain, Sr., and her four children, James Houston Spain, Jr. (Sherrie), Mary Louise Spain Sanders (David), John Mark Spain (Margaret), and Benjamin Del Spain (Cindy). She also dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Houston Spain; her parents; and her brother, William F. “Bill” Delbridge. Survivors include her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Byrd of Huntsville, AL.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Leak Memory Chapel from 5:00pm-7:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2:00pm at Salem Macon Baptist Church cemetery, Hwy 14, Notasulga, Alabama.
Marjorie was known for her sense of humor and willingness to talk to just about anyone- family, friend, or stranger. She loved reading books and working on crafts such as ceramics, crochet, greeting cards, and just about anything that was new. She also loved sweets and taught her children to cook by making cookies and cakes resulting in all four children being good cooks. She will be missed but knowing she is with dad and a miscarried child in heaven makes this a bittersweet time.
As a diabetic and having lost most of her vision, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastern Hills Baptist Church library or any impaired vision charity such as Lighthouse International.
