

Martha Jo Jones Smith, 81, of Montgomery, joined Heaven’s choir on Monday, June 03, 2013. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Leak-Memory Chapel with graveside services to follow at 1:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Jay L. Wolf and Dr. L. Dale Huff officiating. She was born in Falkville, Alabama on November 29, 1931. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josie O. Jones and Lila Zora Suggs Jones of Deatsville, Alabama; two sisters – Willadean Sandlin of Alabaster, Alabama and Emalene Boley of Gadsden, Alabama, and one brother – Josie Ray Jones of Trussville, Alabama. She worked many years as a preschool teacher at the East Montgomery YMCA and Eastern Hills Early Childhood Center. She retired from the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions in Montgomery where she worked in the music and retirement and insurance departments. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery where she enjoyed the JOY Singers, the Sanctuary Choir, and the Senior Adult Sunday School Department until her health prevented her from attending. She was known for her sweet and giving spirit, her loving heart, and her beautiful smile. She loved music and could be heard humming and singing hymns throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Julious L. Smith of Montgomery, Alabama; one son, Mark Smith of Montgomery, Alabama; a loving daughter-in-law, Lisa Smith of Montgomery, Alabama; one daughter, Julie Smith of Montgomery, Alabama; three grandchildren – Kacie Puckett, Austin Smith, and Brooke Smith, all of Montgomery, Alabama; one great-grandchild – Laiken Grace of Montgomery, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
