Mary Etta Morris Hughes, 1918 – 2011, of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., with funeral services beginning at 11:00 A.M. at White Chapel Funeral Home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was born on October 31, 1918 to William and Ellen Amelia Morris in Augusta, Georgia, and lived there until she married the late L.C. Hughes. She was an active member of Rigby Street Baptist Church in Montgomery where she made and loved many friends. Her love in life was her sweet children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her dogs, Shasha and Tootsie Roll. Mary will be remembered by all who knew her for her unconditional love. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Randy Hughes. She leaves behind her children, Janet Arnette, Laverne Dismukes, Diane Blake, Julie Sanford and Johnny Hughes; eighteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Sherri Chavis was her rock as Mary’s health declined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rigby Street Baptist Church.
