Obituary of Mary Louise Hilliman

IN THE CARE OF

Leak Memory Chapel

Mary Louise Veal was born in Long Beach, California on May 30, 1947. She passed from this earth to be with her Maker on September 14, 2022. A lot happened in those 75 wonderful years. She lived in Long Beach, California and Chisolm, Alabama, before moving to Sanford, Florida and attending University of Florida School of Nursing. Mary said she enjoyed being a nurse, especially treating infants in the NICU. Mary longed for a child of her own and in the summer of 1976 was blessed to adopt a baby girl, Laurie. Wanting to spend as much time as possible with Laurie, Mary changed careers from Nursing to Real Estate. Mary and Barry married August 11, 1989. Mary and Barry worked hard and enjoyed a successful construction and real estate company which eventually led them back to Alabama. While being requested to decorate clients’ newly built homes, she had the idea to start a decorating company. That idea grew and eventually turned into the event center and wedding dress boutique. She and Barry found Church of the Highlands and immediately immersed themselves in the church and church family. Mary loved the Women’s Bible study group. She also loved her sorority sisters in Beta Sigma Phi. She loved her dog, Prada. Because who doesn’t name their dog after a top fashion line? She loved her family and enjoyed (occasionally) visiting Barry’s family farm in Perrysburg, NY, even if those Yankees had no idea how to handle this crazy, sassy, Southern woman. She loved her husband Barry and daughter Laurie but the one she loved most was her grandson Logan. She loved watching him grab life by the tail and live it to the fullest. May she continue to watch over and guide all of us. She was preceded in death by her mother Doris Dietrich, father William Veal, older brother William (Butch) Veal and cousin Donnie Foster. She is survived by her husband Barry, daughter Laurie Hartson, son-in-law Mike Hartson, stepsons Andrew and Bradley Hilliman, and grandsons Logan and Hunter. Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Matt. 25:23. Celebration of Life Service will be held at Diamond One Event Center, 4695 Vaughn Rd., Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 pm. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Leak-MC.com for the Hilliman family.
