Georgia Maude Parker Averett of Pike Road, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at the age of 95. A graveside service will be on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11:00am at Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Averett was born October 12, 1924, in Dale County, Alabama to the late Robert Auburn Parker and Montye Beulah Thompson Parker. She was a graduate of Coffee Springs High School and Massey Draughn Business School in Montgomery, Alabama. She worked at Ft. Rucker Army Installation during World War II. During the war, she married Horace D. Averett who preceded her in death. Through the years, Mrs. Averett worked in various retail positions, and was a successful business woman, owning her own store, The Linen Shop in Eastbrook Shopping Center, until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, CMSgt. Horace D. Averett and daughter, Joy Montye Averett Baker. She is survived by four daughters, Janet Averett Holmes, Jeanne Averett Blake, Faye Averett Gilbert (Jerry) , Stacy Averett Free (Tony); six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Thompson Parker, Auburn Lee Parker (Sarah); and one sister, Nancy Lell Rae Parker Marsh (Lamar). Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Gilbert, Chris Gilbert, Katie Gilbert, Tony Free, Dale Blake, and Carey Blake. The family would like to thank Chapman’s Healthcare Center Staff and all those who have been so helpful over the course of her illness, especially Dorothy Williams, Loretta King, and Denise Winn-Morrison.
