

Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother, FJ Haynes and Duria Haynes, brothers, Frank and Robert Haynes, and sisters, Polly Francis Haynes and Dorothy Horne.
He is survived by wife of 55 years, Mickie Haynes, sons, Chris Haynes (Becky) and Eric Haynes (Mia), and grandchildren, Denton Haynes and Walker Haynes.
He was a lifelong member of the church of Christ and served most recently with University church of Christ in Montgomery.
A thirst for knowledge describes his life. After graduating from Oxford High School in 1966, he received an Associates Degree from Freed-Hardeman and his Bachelors from what is now known as Amridge University. He received graduate degrees from Harding, AUM, Auburn and culminated with a doctorate from Nova Southeastern in 2009 (at the age of 61). He loved reading and had a large library of well-read books.
His professional career began as a church of Christ minister, but he transitioned to a Psychologist role with the Alabama Department of Corrections. A 25 year employee of the state, he was honored with a number of awards including:
• Alabama Department of Corrections Employee of the Year in 1985, and
• Alabama Departments of Corrections Psychological Associate of the Year in 1994.
Concurrently, he spent time working with the Bullock County Board of Education helping incarcerated individuals to obtain their GED and later led the Talent Search program at Faulkner University.
In retirement, he spent time leading the Prison Ministry at University church of Christ.
