

Nellie Moore Richardson was born to the late Ella Fuller Moore and Hamp Moore, Sr., on April 24, 1928 in Selma, Alabama. She was one of fourteen children, and one of three sets of twins. Eleven have preceded her in death.
Nellie was baptized and joined the Second Baptist Church at an early age. She remained a faithful adherent to the principles of the Baptist church throughout her life.
She married Lee Dell Culpepper of Gadsden, Alabama, and to this union one son was born, Terry Franklin Culpepper, and one daughter, Xiena Angela Richardson. Nellie and Lee Dell were married for thirteen years. She then married the late William Richardson, who preceded her in death in March, 2007.
Nellie departed this life peacefully on May 27, 2014 while surrounded by her family. She leaves to cherish her memory one loving and caring brother James (Gertrude) Moore of Detroit, Michigan; her identical twin sister, Nettie Moore Richardson of Selma, Alabama; two children Terry Franklin (Catherine) Culpepper of Piscataway, New Jersey and Xiena Angela Richardson of Birmingham, Alabama, seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, plus a myriad of life-long friends.
Nellie was a graduate of Alabama State College. She taught Special Education and retired from the Montgomery County Public School System in 1988. She made countless friends while living in various US cities, including Detroit, MI; Atlanta, GA; Las Vegas, NV; Montgomery, AL; and Piscataway, NJ. She regularly attended Baptist churches in those cities. Her last church membership was at the First Baptist Church of New Market in Piscataway, New Jersey. There, her pastor would ask her to sing solos throughout the year. Nellie was loved and adored by all those who met her and she loved everyone, and never met a stranger. She will forever be remembered for her kind and considerate personality, a witty sense of humor and her hearty and robust laughter.
The family will receive visitors at a wake on June 6 from 5 PM to 7 PM at White Chapel, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL. A Funeral Service will be held at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church on June 7 at 1 PM. Mrs. Richardson will lie in state at Noon. Interment will follow at Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of White Chapel – Greenwood Funeral Home of Montgomery, AL.
