It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of my friend and fellow law enforcement officer, Waynne Ward. As a retired Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff, Waynne served his community with honor and distinction, and his dedication to the profession continued long after his retirement.

I was privileged to serve alongside Waynne as a fellow member of the Alabama Peace Officers' Association. His commitment to supporting the men and women of law enforcement was unwavering. Through the APOA and numerous other law enforcement advocacy organizations, he worked tirelessly to strengthen our profession, mentor others, and ensure the voices of officers were heard.

While his service was remarkable, it is the man himself that I will remember most. Waynne had a tremendous sense of humor and an ability to make people feel at ease. No matter the circumstance, he could bring a smile to your face with a story, a joke, or a simple observation delivered with perfect timing.

Waynne was also a man of integrity. His handshake told you everything you needed to know about him. It was firm, honest, and genuine, reflecting the character of a man whose word could always be trusted. In our profession, those qualities are invaluable, and Waynne embodied them every day.

The law enforcement community has lost a dedicated advocate, and I have lost a respected colleague and friend. I am grateful for the opportunity to have known him and served alongside him.

My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. May they find comfort in the legacy of service, friendship, laughter, and integrity that Waynne leaves behind.

Rest easy, my friend. Thank you for your service, your friendship, your sense of humor, and that honest handshake that spoke volumes about the man you were.
