Patsy was the only child of Forrest and Mary Alice Carroll, born on March 10, 1935 at the home of her Grandaddy and Grandmother Brock in Troy, Alabama. After the Great Depression, her father moved their family from Banks, Alabama to Montgomery. She attended Highland Avenue Elementary School, Capital Heights Junior High School and Lanier High School where she graduated in 1953.
As a teenager, Patsy was a member of the State Rodeo Square Dancers where she and her Square Dance partner, Harold Campbell, were featured in a mounted quadrille at the Alabama State Rodeo.
On March 16, 1950, Singing Cowboy Gene Autry brought his massive live western variety and rodeo show to Montgomery and Patsy led the event on her horse followed by Mr. Autry and his Melody Ranch cast.
She met her husband, Bob, in 1952 when she was a junior in high school and he was an airman stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base. They secretly married on December 26, 1952 and after she graduated high school, she traveled with him to meet his parents and a few of his siblings that still lived at home - Bob was one of 12!
Patsy and Bob, and eventually their children, would live in Mississippi, New Mexico, the Philippines, Germany and Florida before settling in Montgomery when Bob retired from active duty.
