Sergeant Paul Weber Harshman went to be with our Lord on Sunday December 9, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents Claudia Horn Steen and Jasper Columbus (J.C.) Steen; and brother Russell Harshman (Rebecca).
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years: Maryann; two children: Jared and Jill (Matt Padgett); granddaughters: Emilee and Madisen; brother: Jay Steen (Marilyn); many nieces and nephews; and dear friends and colleagues.
Mr. Harshman proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971 during the Vietnam war. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Harshman worked for the State of Alabama Department of Revenue until his retirement in 2014 where he lovingly developed the reputation as ‘the father of collections.’ A man known for his humility, patience, and loyalty to his friends and family, Mr. Harshman appreciated life’s simplest gifts: a cup of coffee, a good book, Auburn Football, and spending time with those he loves. Mr. Harshman’s greatest legacy is the positive impact he’s left on those that knew him. Through his example, Mr. Harshman inspired the people around him to work harder, practice kindness, and strive to be better each day. Mr. Harshman will be eternally missed by his friends and family although his spirit will always be near.
Visitation for Mr. Harshman will be held Friday December 14, 2018 from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at White Chapel Greenwood Funeral Home in Montgomery. A graveside service will begin at 2:45 p.m. at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in memory of Paul Harshman to the Alcazar Shriner’s Temple in Montgomery.
