Paul D. Herring, 81, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born on August 25, 1943, in Montgomery to Ethel and J.B. Herring. Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose legacy of Godly love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Elizabeth Herring, with whom he shared fifty-one wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud and loving father to Durham Cornett (Cheryl), Brien Cornett (Christy), and Angela Boyd (Chad). Known affectionately as “Pops,” he was a source of wisdom and joy to his grandchildren: Brock, Bradley, Bryleigh, Cammie, Madison, and Hudson.
Paul also held a special place in his heart for two nieces whom he had the privilege to greatly impact, Sara Bazzle (Keith, Sheena and Anna) and Brenda Taylor (Steven, Justin and Jacob), whom he loved as his own.
Paul served the state of Alabama as an Associate Commissioner for the Board of Corrections. After retiring, he served as the Administrator for Calvary Baptist Church, Montgomery. He currently attended and served at Lakeview Baptist Church.
Paul will be remembered for his steady presence, his warm smile, and the deep love he had for his family and all things Crimson Tide. He lived a life full of quiet strength, integrity, and compassion, always putting others before himself.
A service will be held to honor and celebrate Paul’s life at Leak Memory Chapel on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Services will conclude with a family only graveside.
Pallbearers are Keith Bazzle, Steven Taylor, Tony Emfinger, Kline Cherry, Rich Hobson, and Arnold Fuller. The honorary pallbearers are Jim Headrick, John Willford, Nolen Camp and Rev. Ron Beckham.
