
Paul D. Savelis, of Montgomery, Al died on March 5th at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, AL following a brief illness. He is survived by his son, Marcus Paul Savelis (Mitzi), daughter, Rene' S. Gunter (Booth); his precious grandchildren, Hannah Grace and Jackson Marcus Savelis whom he loved dearly and brought so much joy to his life. He is also survived by a brother, Panayiote , a sister Fortonie, and several nieces and nephews of Aigon Greece.
Paul was born in. Aigon, Greece on October 26, 1938. He immigrated to the United States in 1951. He became a US citizen in 1961 and served in the United States Army. Paul made many, many friends through his association with the Elite Cafe and later as owner of the Downtowner and Green Lantern restaurants. He was a charming person and embraced all his friends with kindness. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing roles as an extra in movies filmed in the area. He was very proud to have had a speaking role in the movie, “Mississippi Burning” which was filmed in Lafayette, AL.
Visitation will be held from 5:30pm until 6:30pm followed by a prayer service on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 6:30pm at Leak memory Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in the cemetery of Malbis Memorial Church, 29300 Hwy. 181, Daphne, AL 36526. On-line condolences may be made at www.leak-mc.com.
