Peggy Jean Merrill

Mrs. Peggy J. Merrill, age 76, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. She was born March 27, 1946 to Bernell and Brasel (Chalk) Meadows. Her hometown was Braxton, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Heath Merrill.

Peggy was a loving and compassionate person. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and loved every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a vivacious personality and will always be remembered for her wit, charm and grace. Peggy was an active member of First Baptist Church of Montgomery and she loved her Sunday School class.

This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful woman has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be deeply missed by her husband of 54 years, Bert Merrill, and her daughter Stacie (Clay) Cummings and granddaughter Cate. She is also survived by her loving brothers, Jim (Sheila) Meadows and Sheldon Willis, and sister Jamie (Bert) Carpenter as well as many nieces and nephews.

Although our hearts are heavy, we celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in heaven watching over us. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Leak-Memory Chapel on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
