
MONTGOMERY - Phyllis Atkins Wilson (Nov 26, 1934 - Jan 24, 2018) passed away peacefully after an extended illness suffering complications from Amyloidosis. A 44- year resident of Montgomery, AL, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Burke Lester 'Wilson, Lt Col, USAF, Ret.: father, Lewis Stewart Atkins; mother, Elizabeth Mikfa Atkins; and sister Jean Atkins Parise (Frank). She is survived by sons, Burke Edwin (Ed) Wilson (Lisa) Major General, USAF, Ret., Washington, DC; Timothy Stewart-Clive Wilson, Major, USAF, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, TX; daughter, Jessica Wilson Belcher (Bob), Montgomery, AL; brother, Rudy Atkins (Franny), Delaware; sister, Betty Atkins Curro (Angelo), Maryland; grandson, Burke Everett 'Wilson, LCpl, USMC, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms, CA; granddaughters Jordan Elyse Wilson, Los Angeles, CA, and Abigayle Elyce Belcher, Montgomery, AL. Phyllis attended Saint Anthony's grade school, and earned a High School diploma from Notre Dame Academy, an all-girls school, in 1952. After working at the Library of Congress (1952-1955), she married and became a very active Air Force wife. For 23 years, she supported her husband and family as they moved around the country, and during Burke's Vietnam tour of duty. After USAF retirement, the Wilsons settled in Montgomery, AL where Phyllis was an active board member of Saint James School, and Montgomery Mental Health Association. She volunteered with Boy- and Girl-Scouts, Saint James athletic and band programs, and was an officer in her HOA. A woman of faith, she was a lifelong choir member, and a long-time member of Bible Study Fellowship. Phyllis was an avid reader and life-long learner, attending Huntingdon College and AUM. Visitation at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home is Friday, February 9th, 4-7 p.m. A Celebration of Life at Frazer Memorial UMC main sanctuary, Saturday, February 10th, at 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation with family at 9:30 a.m. Service officiated by Dr. Tim Thompson. Phyllis will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
