
SMITH, Ralph Cecil Smith, Born May 9, 1930 passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris "Bunny" Barber Smith. Ralph leaves behind two daughters Gail (Chris) Nabors and Bonnie (Reed) Collar, five grandchildren, Leslie (Jake) Blackwell, Kristy (Ryan) Lackey, Paul Nabors, Elisabeth Collar, Gilbert Collar and three great grandsons, Peyton Lackey, Coleman Blackwell and Mason Blackwell. He is also survived by one brother, Jim Hankins and two sisters, Dorothy Hankins and Frances Thompson He leaves behind many special nieces and nephews who were like his own children. Ralph served in the United States Air Force and was part of the post World War II Berlin Air Lift. "Brother Ralph" as he was lovingly referred to by his church members, served as the minister of Yarbrough Street Baptist Church for 17 years before becoming disabled. He touched many lives both during and after his ministry. It was his greatest joy to know that he had reached others for Christ and that his ministry is continuing through them. Ralph was a long time resident of Hillview Terrace Nursing Facility. He leaves many dear friends at Hillview who helped to care for him over the years. The family is forever grateful to the staff of Hillview. We would like to especially thank Ms. Pam McCants, his longtime caregiver. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, May 4 at 2:00 at Leak Memory in Montgomery. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
