

He was born on September 12, 1933, in West Helena, AR. He was a devoted husband of 52 years and is survived by his loving wife, Laura Jean. He was a devoted father and is survived by his three children, Paula Ann Covey of Little Rock, AR, Laura Elizabeth Willmon of Franklin, TN, and Robert Welton Birmingham of Montgomery, AL. He was a devoted grandfather and is survived by six grandchildren, Christopher Covey, DeAnna Covey, Joseph Covey, Matthew Covey, Kristen Elmore and Robert Porter Birmingham. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Alexa Mckee, Preston Kelly and Atlas Covey. He loved and was eternally dedicated to his family. Mr. Birmingham was an energetic member of St. James United Methodist Church where he served many years as the teacher of the E.B. Paul Men’s Class, Youth Counselor, Fifth Grade Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a Veteran of the Korean War. His legacy will be that those who knew him are better for having known him because of his Christian example, his positive attitude and his humorous outlook on life. He was fortunate to have had so many friends who were close and special to him. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Howard, Garnett Turner and Lloyd Smilie (the surviving members of the E.B. Paul Men’s Class) along with all members of the Frazer Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends and visitors from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 at Leak Memory Chapel with graveside services immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery.
