Robert Maxwell Cumbee

Robert Maxwell Cumbee, 84, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert Cumbee, and Mattie Cosper Cumbee. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sherry Cauthen Cumbee; his daughters, Lisa Miaoulis (Billy) and Angie Blackwell (Gary). He is also survived by four grandchildren; Mandy Johnson (Adrian), Mallory Riggs (Mikel), Macy Graben (Clay), and Michael Miaoulis; and four great grandchildren; Harper Johnson, Mattie Beckett Riggs, Major Riggs, and Lucy Graben.

Robert was a man of faith who believed firmly in Jesus Christ, cherished his family, and embodied the value of hard work. He loved Auburn University, where he graduated in Civil Engineering in 1962. He loved golf, Auburn football, and his family at Newell Road Builders, where he worked for over 60 years. Robert was on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Road Builders Association for several years before serving as its President in 1987. In 2011, he was inducted into the Alabama Road Builders Hall of Fame. He was a member of Arrowhead Country Club for 46 years. He was also a long time member of Frazer United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, June15, 2021 at 1:00PM at Frazer United Methodist Church with John Ed Mathison officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage.

Pallbearers serving will be Chris Newell, Trent Newell, Bobby Smith, Tim Crowley, Craig Sims, and Johnnie James. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Newell, Jay Jackson, Wilson Scott, and Steve Scott.
