He served in the U.S. Navy before beginning a career with CSX Transportation which he retired from after 40 years of dedicated service. In addition to work, he was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Men’s Organization.
Emmett is referred to by his family as a Loving Husband, Father, Brother, and Grandfather who will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances F. Manning, Montgomery, Al; daughters, Kathy M. Hamlin, Statesboro, Ga and Alice Lumsden, Dawsonville, Ga; son, Robert Manning (Marsha), Montgomery, Al; grandchildren, Rebecca Petkewich (Mark), Stephanie Pratt (Adam), Michael Manning (Lindsey), Kimberly Caudill (Justin), and Justin Lumsden (Allison); 7 great grand children; and brother, W.F. “Monk” Manning, Lillian, Al.
Visitation will be held at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit on Friday, July 24, 2015 with Rev. Patrick Driscoll officiating. The body will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until funeral time.
