This past Sunday, after living in the full-faith of a loving God and His son Jesus Christ, Bob Muncaster passed from this life to the next, following his wife, Esther, grandson, Phillip and great-granddaughter, Millie. The youngest of four brothers, he is survived by his four children, Charles, Joan, Walter and Georgia, as well as fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife Shirley, her children and grandchildren.
Born to affluence, suffering the death of his mother at the age of two, and enduring the family's bankruptcy from the Great Depression, Bob came to Montgomery to live with the Murray family at the age of eight. Graduating from Lanier High School in 1940, he then went on to school in Auburn. During World War II, he trained as a Naval Aviator, receiving his wings in 1945. After the war, he enrolled in architectural school at Berkeley, where he met his wife Esther. He practiced his profession for ten years in Los Angeles before moving back to Montgomery to serve as a management consultant. He continued to work, finishing his career in South Carolina, once again as an architect, at the age of 85.
Bob was also very involved in politics and the Law. As a Congressional candidate in California, a State Senatorial and, later, a gubernatorial candidate in Alabama, Bob also personally appealed a case to the United States Supreme Court.
To those who knew him, Bob brought the work-ethic of the North, the manners of the South and the optimism of the West into his daily life. Throughout all, he lived by the principals of courage, intellect and faith. As we remember him, we will find comfort in that memory. We will also feel challenged by those same memories.
A visitation for Mr. Muncaster is scheduled for Thursday, 11:00 am at Leak Memory Chapel in the Rose Parlor with a graveside in Greenwood Serenity Cemetery set for 12:00 pm.
