

Ross Kennedy Henderson, Jr., age 82, passed away on December 20, 2014 at Angels for the Elderly in Montgomery, AL.We remember Ross Henderson, known affectionately as friend and uncle. He touched us, and others with his friendship, kindness and faith in Christ and we are thankful.Born May 12, 1932 in Brownsville, TX to Ross Kennedy Henderson Sr. and Tabitha (nee Rice) Henderson, Ross was raised in Brownsville and graduated from Brownsville (Texas) High School in 1950. He attended Texas Southmost College earning an associate degree in 1952. In 1954 he graduated with highest honors with a Bachelor of Business Administration followed by a Master of Business Administration in 1956, both from The University of Texas. He received a direct commission, Finance Corps, US Army in 1957, serving three years in active duty, honorably discharged in 1960 as First Lieutenant. From 1960-1963, while serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, Ross worked as Technical Representative, System Analyst and Salesman for the UNIVAC Division of the Sperry Rand Corporation. His computer programming and operational expertise brought him to the attention of the Blount Brother's Construction Company where he began working in 1963. In his 26 years with the company, he served as Director, Management Information Systems at Blount, Inc. and as Vice President, Management Information Systems of Blount International, Ltd., at the time of his retirement in 1989. In 1990 Ross was offered a position with the Governor's Office/Finance Department of the State of Alabama where he stayed until his State retirement in 1998.Ross enjoyed volunteering at the Montgomery Cancer Center and at the various churches he attended throughout his life including Young Meadows Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed writing letters, studying the bible, reading, and particularly enjoyed assisting those who came to him for help, prayer, encouragement or guidance. Ross is preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Tabitha, sister, Mary Elizabeth, nephew Harvey Rentz, and great-nephew Eric Rentz. He is survived by nephew, Frederick Rentz of Huntsville, great-nieces, Honey Carrigan of Huntersville, NC and Brandy O'Keefe of Prosper, TX as well as cousins in Texas and countless friends and associates in Montgomery and Texas. His family would like to thank Angels for the Elderly and Angels for the Elderly Home Care for their love and attention paid to Ross in his final two years. A memorial service will be held at Young Meadows Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, AL, on Saturday, December 27 at 11 am, officiated by Rev. Kirby Smith. The family will greet guests at a reception beginning at 10 am.
