Ruth McIntyre Waller died peacefully on May 20, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Leslie Turner McIntyre and Ruth McNeill Couch, Ruth grew up in Pine Bluff, attended Stephens College and then graduated from the University of Arkansas. She then took off for bright lights of New York City where she worked as an illustrator for several fashion houses and publications from 1948 to 1957. While there she met her husband William Chambers Waller, who attended Columbia Medical School and was completing his residency. They married, and after his residency they returned to his hometown of Montgomery, Alabama where they raised their five children. After Will's death in 1997, Ruth moved to Birmingham to be closer to her children and grandchildren who were living there.
Ruth is survived by her five children William Chambers Waller, Jr. (Vida), Lucy Waller Huebner (Chuck), Rebecca Waller Dawson, Elizabeth Waller Sellers (Jim), and Ruth Waller Ott (Kevin). She is also survived by her heart children Parks Hollis (Ann) and Kate Hollis (Bethany).
In addition to her children, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held in Montgomery at St. John's Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors in the church hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
