Sadie Jernigan Horton

Sadie Jernigan Bryant Horton, 73, passed away July 5, 2018. She was born on April 6, 1945 in Pensacola to Maxie Jernigan and Annie (Young) Jernigan. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Gene Bryant and Ansley Horton; her son, Mark Bryant and stepson Scott Horton; her brothers Joseph Jernigan, Buddy Jernigan, Cecil Jernigan, Doug W. Jernigan and sister Carolyn McLean. Sadie is survived by her daughter, Michelle Bryant Bowen (Tim); sisters, Susie Plumb (Kenny), Gloria Shaddix (Lindsey) and Caffie Taber (Terry); brother, Donnie Jernigan (Pat) and stepdaughter Lueree Horton Hembree (Ken); stepson, Kevin Horton; and her grandchildren, Zachary Bowen, Nicholas Bowen, Skyelar Bryant, Madyux Bryant, Keenan Bryant, Joshua Horton, and Rebecka Horton, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Sadie was a native of Pensacola (Ferry Pass) and attended Tate High School. She loved her country, The United States Marine Corps. and her sisters. As a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she found joy in spending time with, and cooking for the people she loved. Her love of the natural world was evident from the gardens she nurtured and the wildlife she tended and observed. Sadie’s spirit touched many lives and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service for Sadie Jernigan Bryant Horton will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Faith Chapel South (100 Beverly Pkwy) in Pensacola, FL. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by a service at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sadie’s honor to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org) or the Whitmire Cemetery Association, 9200 Chisholm Road Pensacola, FL 32514.
