

Sara Grogan Crumpton, 88, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Oak Park in Auburn, Alabama. She was born on February 22, 1929 in Cedartown, Georgia to Wilburn I. Grogan and Lucille Grogan Little.
Sara grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. After high school she attended Huntingdon College and met her husband Robert Bozeman Crumpton to whom she was married to for 62 years. Sara was a member of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, Alabama where she was a member of the Tower Sunday School Class and Circle 4. She was the first woman to serve as a safety patrol officer. She also served for Police Commissioner L. B. Sullivan. She was most well known for her service as Executive Assistant to Governor George C. Wallace. Finally, she served as Executive Secretary for the Alabama Contractors License Board. Throughout her lifetime, she was an avid Auburn fan.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn I. Grogan, Lucille Padgett Little (Leo- step father); and her husband Robert Bozeman Crumpton. Sara is survived by her son Robert B. Crumpton, Jr. (Gwen) of LaGrange, Georgia; her daughter Cara Mia Braswell of Auburn, Al; her grandchildren Sara Elizabeth Crumpton Fuller (Brian); Robert B. Crumpton, III, (Libby), Katelyn Braswell Parnell (Stuart), Frances Braswell Granger (Clint). Her great-grandchildren included Grace Elizabeth Worley (12) and Annabeth Olivia Fuller (2), Harris Bozeman Crumpton (11), Miller Anderson Crumpton (9), and Clay Everett Crumpton (5).
The visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church at 10:00 am on February 5, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am, with Dr. Karl K. Stegall and Dr. Jeremy K. Pridgeon officiating. The Graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following.
Flowers can be sent to First United Methodist Church or in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Foundation.
