Sara was the daughter of Viola and Edgar McDade. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Aveline (Lawrence) Jehle, Annie Mae (Samuel) Robinson, Margaret (Gary) Halbert, Joanne McDade, and Betty (Paul) Johns; her brothers, Dudley McDade and Patrick McDade; and all of their spouses. Sara was the last surviving member of her generation.
At age 16, following her father’s unexpected death, Sara left school to help support her mother and siblings. In 1944, she began her career with BellSouth (AT&T)Telephone, where she worked for over 40 years before retiring.
Sara shared a lifelong bond with her younger sister, Joanne. After retirement, they traveled the world together, enjoying cruises and many adventures. Joanne’s passing in 2024 was a great loss, but Sara treasured their memories and shared them often.
A woman of deep faith, Sara was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years.
Sara’s life reflected sacrifice, love, faith, and devotion to family. She is survived by her niece and nephews: Ralph Jehle (Judy), Deborah Storey (Tony), Paul Johns (Maria), Danny Johns, Billy Johns (Leslie), and Jimmy Johns (Betty Jo); Chris Halbert, and Erich Halbert; along with great-nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
The family is grateful to Karen Dickerson and Linda Lawson for their friendship and loving care, and to Enhabit Hospice for caring for Sara as family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Robinson Springs Methodist Church, Loaves and Fish Ministry, 5980 Robinson Springs Road, Millbrook, Alabama 36054, which provides meals for elderly members of the community.
Though the last of her generation, Sara leaves a legacy of faith, love, sacrifice, and family that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A Graveside Service will be held at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, US, on July 27, 2026, at 10:00 am, with family to meet at graveside around 9:30 am.
