

Sarah Katherine Barnes Echols was born October 23, 1967 in Montgomery, Alabama. She went home to Heaven on May 8, 2017. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Leak Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday, May 12, 2017 with Rev. Mike Northcutt officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Sarah was a cherished and loving mother, daughter, sister and grandchild, loved and adored by all who knew her. She was a sweet and gentle soul and never had a hard word to say about anyone. She was selfless. A loving Christian mother, she followed and participated in all her beloved boys’ activities all their lives. No child could have wished for a mother who put more energy and support into their care and upbringing. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Melvin and Margaret Cleveland and her paternal grandparents, Lester and Lottie Barnes. She is survived by sons, Joshua Brandon Echols and William Kyle Echols; her parents, Cecil and Barbara Barnes; her brother, Allen Barnes; aunt, Jeanette Waldo (Fred); uncle, Bill Cleveland (Willa); cousins, Margie Waldo-Jones and Rick Waldo; cherished friends Jo Ann Sells and Savannah Andress; and her estranged husband, Jarrod Echols. Sarah is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School where she was a proud member of the award winning marching band. In her senior year, she was awarded the Girl Scouts Gold Medal award for excellence in scouting under the careful guidance of her leader, Zada Bell. She retired from the State of Alabama Finance Department after twenty five years of service to the State. Pallbearers will be Slade Ivey, Will Selmon, Hunter LeJuene, Monroe Hare, Wyman Dorman and Shawn Holland. “I am but waiting for you, at a gate, somewhere very near, just around the corner. My sorrows and pains are no more, I am at peace. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
