

Soon Young Kwak, age 80, passed away on August 8, 2026. Born on August 11, 1945, in South Korea, he later made his home in Montgomery, Alabama, after moving there in 1979. Throughout his life, Soon Young carried himself with steady devotion and a faithful spirit that shaped the way he worked, served, worshiped, and loved those entrusted to his care.
Young Soon Kwak, age 76, passed away on May 25, 2024. She too was born in South Korea and moved with her husband to the United States. Her faith and devotion shaped her outlook and influence as a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
Soon Young served in the Korean military during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life marked by duty and resolve. He later worked at Rheem Manufacturing, where his commitment and reliability were evident in the daily dignity of providing for his family and building a life rooted in perseverance.
Soon Young was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Young Soon Kwak. He is survived by his sons, Yongki Kwak (Kamee Kwak) and Young Man "Monty" Kwak (Ana Kwak); and by his grandchildren, Ella Young Kwak and Abigail Riley Kwak, who brought him deep joy and purpose. In the quiet, faithful ways that matter most, he showed his love through presence—especially in the care he gave to his grandchildren and the constancy with which he held his family close.
A man who found peace in the outdoors and satisfaction in simple, honest pursuits, Soon Young dearly enjoyed hunting, fishing in both fresh and salt water, and tending to his garden. His faith remained a guiding strength, lived out in fellowship and worship at Korean Presbyterian Church. Alongside Soon Young stood his devoted wife, Young Soon. She completed her husband as most wives do- supporting the hunting and fishing passions of her husband as well as working together within their parenting roles and later the wonders of grandparenting.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, on August 22, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Soon Young and Young Soon will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for a lives of faithful service, for steadfast devotion to family, and for the enduring example of love expressed through work, worship, and care.
