Stanley P. Colwell, TSGT, (USAF, Ret.), 90, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel with Dr. Teamon Knight officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Tuesday. TSGT Colwell was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He flew 125 missions as a navigator and radio operator. On one mission, his plane developed engine trouble and he had to bail out over Burma and spent 40 days in the jungle before being rescued. He also taught electronics at Keesler A.F.B. in Biloxi, MS then became a chemist with NASA during the Apollo program. He is survived by his loving wife, Joann Colwell; son, Stanley Colwell (Nina Jo); daughters, Stanna Lynn Simpson, Lee Anne Mace; brother, Arthur Dean Colwell; grandsons, Michael Colwell, Jonathan Colwell; and five great grandchildren.
