Dr. Sue Blair Adams, born on November 28, 1938 in Geneva, AL, passed away at Jackson Hospital on April 6, 2016 in Montgomery, AL at the age of 77. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 2:00PM at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Dean Finch and Rev. Andy Hepburn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Pineview Memorial Gardens in Wetumpka. Dr. Adams became Director of Prevention and Support July 16, 2006. She was employed November 19, 1973 and retired on November 1, 2009. Dr. Adams served the ALSDE for 36 years and served the State of Alabama for over 40 years in various capacities. She was a true pioneer in the organization of school safety and connecting school personnel to first responders to ensure that children and adults were safe. Dr. Sue Adams created partnerships that fostered collaborative efforts with the National Institute of Justice Advisory Committee on School Safety; the U.S. Department of Secret Service Threat Assessment as related to school safety and planning for and recognition of terrorism prevention; Children’s Policy Council; the Department of Public Health Emergency Planning; the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Program; the Governor’s Faith-Based Community Initiatives; and the Governor’s Strengthening Families Commission. Dr. Adams was preceded in death by her parents, Snell Blair and Annie Pearl Brown Blair; brother, Mickey Blair; sister, Margaret Blair Campbell; and son, John Kevin Adams. She is survived by her loving husband, James H. Adams; children, James E. Adams of Tuscaloosa; Melissa Clark (Randall) of Northport; Stan Adams (Rebecca) of Northport; sister, Betty Jo Blair Jones (M.Z. Jones, Jr.); nieces and nephews Diane Lindsey (Titus), Robert Jones (Shannon), David Campbell, Michele Blair DeShong (Chip); twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Sue was loved by all who knew her. She saw the good in everyone, had compassion for all, and a giver of comfort and advice. She changed lives! Sue was strong, reliable, practical, hard-working and a pillar of society whom all could depend. She will be truly missed. We have comfort in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pallbearers will be Randall Clark, Blair DeShong, Seth Thomas, Chip DeShong, David Hurst and Bart Adams.
