Sue McLendon, passed away on November 5, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on November 23, 1940, in Pike County, Alabama, Sue was the daughter of the late Joe Tom Messick and Ella Mae Messick. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Melanie Denise McLendon, her brother James Thomas Messick, her sisters Eloise Pryor, Loette Lee, and Josie Terry, and her brother John William (JW) Messick. She is survived by her beloved husband, James A. McLendon, her sister Faye McFarland, and numerous nieces and nephews who are left to cherish her memory.
Sue was a graduate of Macon County High School, class of 1959, and Massy-Draughon's Business College. She had a fulfilling career as an Executive Secretary for Winn Dixie, where she was known for her hard-working and selfless nature.
A faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, Sue was active in Sunday School, the Choir, and the Senior Adult Ministry. She was also a dedicated volunteer with Baptist Medical Center South and Hospice of Montgomery. As a greeter, Sue's smile and warm welcome set a winsome tone for many attending Heritage Baptist Church.
Sue had a passion for traveling, Auburn Basketball and Football, and Southern Gospel Music. Her generous and gentle spirit touched the lives of many. It is easy to imagine her visiting with her daughter in heaven and hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
A Family and Friends Visitation will be held at Heritage Baptist Church, located at 1849 Perry Hill Rd, Montgomery, Alabama, on November 11, 2025, at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 am, with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or Heritage Baptist Church, located at 1849 Perry Hill Rd., Montgomery, AL 36106.
Sue McLendon will be remembered for her generous heart, selfless service, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her family, friends, and community.
