

PRUETT, Thaddeus “Thad” Harper 86, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Friday, March, 17, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carroll Kelly Pruett, and his parents, William Guerry and Eugenia Harper Pruett. He is survived by his son, Harper Pruett (Sharon) and his daughter, Kelly Troy (Robert). He was known and loved as “Papa” by his eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Marie Davis (Andy), William Pruett, Carroll Anna Troy, Pruett Troy (Samantha), Zoey Troy, Allie Troy, Hayden Troy, Kailey Troy, Charlie Davis and Caroline Davis. Thad was born in Montgomery, Alabama on April 22, 1936. He was a member of the 1954 graduating class at Lanier High School then graduated from Auburn University as a civil engineer. He was married to his wife, Carroll Kelly Pruett, on June 14, 1958 and very soon after was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a Seabee in the United States Naval Construction Battalion. He took great pride in his time spent in the Navy and continued his service in the United States Navy Reserve for 25 years. Building was his passion and he was a fixer of all things. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Martin with his friends and family and could teach anyone to catch a fish or water ski. He had hundreds of stories and was always quick to tell a joke. Thad was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church and later Frazer United Methodist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to anyone he met. A graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held in Greenwood Cemetery on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00am. Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel at 10:00am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Enhabit Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
