Samford, Thomas D., IV a resident of Montgomery, AL died Friday, April 15, 2011 at his home. Tom was born in Camp LeJuene (Jacksonville), NC on August 18, 1956 and grew up in Opelika, AL. He graduated from Auburn University in 1977 with a B.S. in Political Science and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U. S. Navy. He served on the USS Richard L. Page and at the Naval Surface Forces Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, VA before being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant in 1983. He completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Alabama in 1986 and worked as an attorney at the Administrative Office of Courts and then the Public Service Commission before his retirement in February.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janice; his three daughters Jennifer (Dwayne) Morgan, Lauren Samford, and Heather Samford of Montgomery; his mother Jackie Samford of Opelika, his sister Lynn (John) Fargason of Birmingham, brothers Robert (Joy) Samford of Auburn, and Richard (Debra) Samford of Opelika. He will also be missed by the grandchildren he adored, Anthony, Michael, Austin, and Destiny Morgan all of Montgomery.
Visitation will be at Leak-Memory on Lincoln Road from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on Sunday, April 17th. Burial will be at Rosemere Cemetery in Opelika, AL on Monday, April 18th at 10:30 am, friends are welcome to attend. The memorial service will follow at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL at 3:00 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
