Velma Gaddy Carter passed away on October 13, 2018 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Al. Born May 17, 1945 in Asheville, N.C. to Larkin & Effie Farr Gaddy. She worked for Sam's Club for 23 years before having to retire in 2014 due to health reasons. Her father Larkin (papaw) Gaddy preceded her in death; mother Effie Farr (Granny) Gaddy, brother's W.F. (Bill) Echols, Nelson Lee Gaddy, Carol Ray Gaddy, and sister Carolyn Gaddy. She is survived by her husband Frank Carter, daughter's Vickie Carter, Judy Caver, son John Carter, grand-daughter Mykaila Miller, great-grand-daughter Kammiyah Carter, all of Montgomery, step-daughter's Melinda (Len) Montford, Tallahassee, Fl., Angie (Mike) Carson (Dowling Park, FI) step-grand-daughter's Ashley & Christina Montford, step great-grandchildren Avery & Levi Montford, step-grandson's Joshua (Kate) & Jonah Carson, brother Tom (Ann) Gaddy and several nieces and nephews. And special friends, Ernest "Bubba" Motley and Laura Michelle Motley.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Leak Memory Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Leak Memory Chapel with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mike Echols, Tommy Gaddy, Elliott Gaddy, Alan Gaddy, Kenny Gaddy, Jeff Gaddy, David Gaddy, and Rodney Barrett. Honorary pallbearer's Billy Echols, Mark Matthews, Brandon Echols, Brian Echols, Nathan Echols, Josh Matthews, Will Matthews Donald Harden, Mark Boatright, Frank "Scooter" Sanders.
Velma was also involved with the Highland Garden's Community Club, having work with them for the past 40 years helping with fundraisers at the Fair.
