

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Vernon Morgan Scott on March 26, 2025. Vernon was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Vernon was born on June 29,1959 in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School (Percy Julian High School), Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) and Troy University. From AUM, Vernon received a B. A. majoring in Communications and minoring in Philosophy. Later, he continued with his education at Troy University obtaining a Masters in Counseling.
Throughout his life, Vernon was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, church and community. He married his soulmate, Diane, with whom he shared 35 years of love and partnership. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three children, who were the light of his life. Vernon took immense pride in his role as a father and grandfather, always offering his wisdom, support, and unconditional love.
Vernon had a heart for ministering to the less fortunate. It was not unusual for Vernon to provide a meal or assistance to someone in need. His generosity and compassion were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Vernon enjoyed pickleball. He was a staunch supporter and advocate as well as participant for Rock Steady Boxing and its ability to improve the lives of those with Parkinson’s.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, James and Vela Scott. He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Evans Scott, his children Laura Leigh Churnside (Alex), Goodwin Scott and Franklin Scott, and his grandchildren Isla James Churnside and Sullivan Churnside. He also leaves behind his sister Jacqueline Scott (Marc Romanych), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A celebration of Vernon's life will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. James Church, 9045 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. Immediately following the service, the committal will be held at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. James Church, 9045 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36117 in Vernon's memory.
Vernon's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. He will be remembered as a guiding light, whose influence will continue to inspire us. May he rest in eternal peace.
