Veronica Jenkins McKenzie was born to Adam Jenkins, Jr. and Margaree G. Jenkins on November 22, 1962. A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, nurse, educator, community leader, and devoted servant of Christ, she entered into eternal rest on September 2, 2026, at the age of 63.
Veronica grew up in Utica, Mississippi, where family, faith, education, hard work, and service shaped the woman she would become. She graduated from Hinds AHS and attended Alcorn State University before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tuskegee University. She later earned a master’s degree in Adult Health/Nursing Administration from Troy State University and became a certified Dementia Educator and Trainer through the State of Alabama in 2008.
While attending Tuskegee University, Veronica met her soulmate David McKenzie. They married in 1990 and were blessed with two children, Brian and Catherine. Together, they built a life centered on family, supporting their children in their many activities and creating cherished memories through travel both at home and abroad.
In 2006, Veronica founded the Successful Living Center in Montgomery, Alabama, an adult daycare center serving individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. As Executive Director, she dedicated herself to ensuring that every individual was treated with dignity, purpose, compassion, and the opportunity for the best quality of life possible. Under her leadership, Successful Living Center became a source of care, hope, respite, education, and encouragement for countless individuals and families.
More than her titles or accomplishments, Veronica’s greatest legacy is found in the lives she touched. A devoted servant of Christ, she was an ordained minister at Saints Movement Worship Center International Church, where she faithfully served the Lord and her church community. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends, a source of encouragement to many, and a woman who loved and cared deeply.
