Victor Herbert Mims, Jr. devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his children, Vickie Dianne Mims and Herbert Neal Mims; parents, Victor & Gladys Mims; and brother, Winston Neal Mims. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Anne Brasher Mims; daughter, Barbara Louise Mims Owen (Harry); two grandsons, Harrison Neal Owen (Monica), Louis Andrew “Drew” Owen; great granddaughter, Lacey Jean Owen; sisters, Louise Burwell, Barbara M. Brunson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mims was a faithful member of Letohatchee Baptist Church and served as deacon, a Sunday school teacher since 1959. He also enjoyed singing in the choir and had a beautiful voice and is now singing with the angels. For over 15 years, he enjoyed working on summer mission trips with the church. He worked full time with the Army National Guard for over 20 years as well as serving in the Army National Guard for 23 years. Upon retiring, he began his horse shoeing business which continued for the next 20 years. For the last three years, he has enjoyed being Pops to his great granddaughter. He was dedicated and loving and will be missed by all.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 2:00pm at Letohatchee Cemetery in Letohatchee, Alabama.
The family requests no flowers, and memorials be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 681970, Prattville, AL 36068.
