Violet was born July 30, 1923, and grew up in the rural area of Bluff Springs in south Alabama during the Great Depression. She is preceded in death by her parents Sidney Josiah (Joe) Allen and Mary Myrl Bryan Allen and all of her siblings, Edsel, Glenn, Lloyd and Daisy. A son, Sydney James died shortly after birth in 1955.
Violet was married to James A. McAhren from 1947 to 1973. They lived in Troy, Alexander City and then settled in Montgomery. Violet is survived by her five children Janice Jakubielski (Joseph Jr.) of St. Peters, MO, Wayne McAhren (Patti) of Mobile, Barbara Bloom of Framingham, MA, Cynthia Cutter (Ed), and Ramona Smith (Joe) of Montgomery, AL. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Joseph Jakubielski III (Jennifer), Laura Jakubielski, Stephanie Cutter Smith (George); three great grandchildren; Andrew, Evan and Luke in addition to many nieces, nephews and extended family including Puffy, her cat.
Violet loved children and animals, poetry, politics, history, the Weather Channel and cats. She had many childhood memories that she retold to anyone who would listen and even to those who didn’t! It was hard for her to throw anything away. She might need it someday! It’s amazing the amount of stuff she accumulated. It may take years to sort it all along with the memories associated with each item. She was a devoted mother who will be missed.
A visitation for Mrs. McAhren is set for Tuesday, January 26 at 11:00 am in Leak Memory Chapel with a chapel service set to follow at 12:00 pm. Services will conclude with a burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
