Virginia Ophelia Williams Shearin was born on November 22, 1920 in Columbia, Alabama and passed away on January 16, 2021 in Montgomery, Alabama after recently celebrating her 100th birthday. She graduated from Houston County High School in Columbia, AL, and Massey Draughn Business College in Dothan, Al. She worked in Atlanta, Georgia and Fort Rucker in Daleville, AL as a bookkeeper and in administrative positions before becoming a housewife for a number of years after her children were born.
She was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL for a number of years and loved singing in the church choir, attending Sunday School, and participating in Bible Study.
Raising Day Lilies and gardening were some of her passions. She enjoyed China Painting and won several ribbons at different Alabama State Fairs for her work. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family meant the most to her in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Pauline Williams, Columbia, AL, her husband Frank L. Shearin, Montgomery, AL, her sister Nellie Faye Gniady, New Orleans, LA, her brother Harwell Williams, Montgomery, AL, and her brother, Max Williams, San Jose, California. She is survived by her son, Dr. Roger (Mollie) Williams Kemp, and her daughter Regina (Jerry) Shearin Peavy, Montgomery, AL a grandson, Lt Colonel David (Ashley) Williams Kemp, Sr, Bonaire, GA, and a granddaughter Mary Margaret (Zach) Harris Kemp Moore, Birmingham, AL, three great granddaughters and three great grandsons.
Her family would like to thank her care givers, especially Rose, in her later years at Crowne Health Care in Montgomery, AL for their kindness to her. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
