
Wallace Edward “Ed” Hill, Jr., 64, of Montgomery, AL, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 at his residence. A former longtime resident of Pike Road, AL, Ed was born in Canton, OH and retired after 19 years with CSX Railroad. He currently worked for the VA Medical Ctr. as a utilities supervisor. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennifer Crowder Hill, his father and grandparents. Survivors include wife, Susan Marie Witte Hill; 4 children, Jennifer Hill Stephens, Ashley Hill Bailey (Blake), Ruth Ray Taylor (John), and Jacob F. Ray; mother, Florence H. Hill; sister JoAnn Hill Burkhalter (Ken); brother-in-law, Robert Witte; mother-in-law, Marie Witte; former mother-in-law, Inabelle Crowder; five grandchildren, Anna Carrie Rogers, Jamison Paul Bailey, Gerald “Gered” Ray Rogers III, Janice Marie Taylor and Jacoby A. Taylor; and one grandchild, Isabella Ray, on the way. Ed was a simple man who proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Trout. He was a loving husband and father and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, AL on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at 11:00am with military honors rendered, officiated by LuAnne Houser. The family will receive friends at White Chapel Funeral Home the evening prior, on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 from 5pm-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the following charities: St. Luke UMC Food Pantry, American Cancer Society, American Heart Assoc. or Disabled Vets Fund.
