

STEVENSON, Walter Brown Jr., 83, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, died peacefully on July 3, 2026, after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter B. Stevenson and Mildred Sellers Stevenson. He is survived by his wife, Aleen Koenig Stevenson, his daughter, Lisa Holifield (Joseph) and his son, Patrick Stevenson (Deborah). He was known as Pawpaw and Toot-Toot to his five grandsons, Tate Holifield (Kayla), Rhys Holifield (Kate), Alan Stevenson, Ryan Stevenson, and Cody Stevenson. He adored his great-granddaughter, Eva Holifield. Walter attended Sidney Lanier High School and Auburn University and was a graduate of Troy University. He was also the recipient of an honorary Doctorate from the University of West Alabama. Walter was a proud member and Past President of the General Richard Montgomery Chapter of the Alabama Society, Sons of the American Revolution, as well as a member of related groups, the Germany and Jamestown Societies. He was a curious man with many varied interests who never stopped learning – genealogy, travel, camping, wood working. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Montgomery Catholic Knights football and soccer teams, as well as the marching band. He enjoyed a long retirement after working for the State of Alabama for 37 years, with his last position as the Division Chief of the Office of Water Resources – ADECA. After retirement from the State of Alabama, he continued working as a consultant on various projects in Alabama and Georgia.
Walter was a wonderful, caring and generous husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed by his family. A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Baptist Medical Center South - their kindness to Walter and his family will be remembered.
Memorial contributions may be made to UAB O'Neal Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital of Alabama or the Montgomery Humane Society.
Services will be at Leak Memory Chapel at 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, with Visitation at 1:00 p.m., and a Celebration of Life Service following at 2:00 p.m.
