Wilborn Clinton Vaughn passed away July 2, 2020 in Montgomery, AL. He was born in Jefferson County, AL on May 3, 1920 to Henry C. and Lily Mae Peoples Vaughn. The oldest of eight children, he grew up on a farm in Blount County later graduating from Blount County High School, Oneonta, AL in 1939. Wilborn is survived by his sister, Betty Andrews of Albertville, AL. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Dale Vaughn; his parents and his remaining brothers and sisters.
Wilborn was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Arena as an accountant until his honorable discharge in 1946. Returning to Alabama, he worked in the Social Security office in Birmingham growing in his role as a claims authorizer. There he met Gladys Dale and they married in 1950. They traveled extensively and eventually retired in Panama City Beach, FL. Wilborn was active in Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church of Birmingham and later, Venture Out Chapel of Panama City Beach. He enjoyed fishing, boating and watching ballgames on TV. His driving goal in recent years aimed at living to be 100. He achieved that marker on May 3, 2020.
A graveside to honor Mr. Vaughn’s life is set for Wednesday, July 8 at 2:00 pm at Bethel ARP Church Cemetery , AL Hwy 21 in Oak Hill, AL with visitation an hour prior. Online condolences may be shared at: www.Leak-MC.com.
