He was a hero to me and I'm sure to many others. As a special assignment, I worked for him, on Veterans Day in Birmingham, for several years while he was the Commanding General of the 87th. I loved his wit , wisdom and his stories. He was also one of the smartest men I have ever known. I will miss him always. He was a true Southern gentleman.

I served with Gen. Tankersley in the past and always had the highest respect for him over the years. I served in the 87th MAC in Birmingham and later served as DCSOPS of the 75th MAC in Houston.
I was Rotary District Governor (D-6860)
for North Alabama in the Centennial Year
(2004-2005). His leadership will be missed. He was truly Outstanding.

Mr. Tankersley had a profound influence on my life and that of my husband, Phil.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked along side him for 8 years at Sterne, Agee & Leach, during the 80's.  I learned so much from  him, and we are so sorry that we did not learn of his passing sooner, or we would have definitely attended the service.  Our deepest sympathies to his family.  He will live on in the memories of many, many people like myself, that he positively influenced.   God speed my friend, until we meet again.

Will Hill was a force not just a man. He made such an impact on the world and on all who were blessed to know him. I cherish him and his memory. I am sad that his smile no longer graces this earth. I shall miss him.
