Boroughs, Lt. Col. William Robert, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away at his home at Lake Martin on Sunday, January 8, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at White Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Timothy Davis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Lt. Col. Boroughs was born in Ft. Myers, Florida on May 8, 1943 to Colonel William Jones and Mrs. Elizabeth Minta Speer Boroughs. Lt. Col. Boroughs retired from the U.S. Army after 35 years of service, ending his career as Chief of Logistics. He retired from his position with the National Guard on May 31, 1998. Lt. Col. Boroughs not only loved his career, but also loved and cherished his many friends that he met while in the National Guard. He also enjoyed playing softball for the National Guard in his earlier years. Lt. Col. Boroughs enjoyed coaching football, baseball and was involved in many sports. His favorite past time was Auburn University football games. Many people can remember the times of Auburn football on Wares Ferry Road in Montgomery, Alabama. Lt. Col. Boroughs and Carolyn retired and resided at Lake Martin of which they both loved the lake and boating. He met his soul mate, sweetheart and true love in Montgomery, Carolyn Jean Griggs Boroughs. They were married on April 15, 1962 and have been together for 49 years. He and Carolyn have three children, Elizabeth Renee Boroughs, Carolyn Denise Boroughs Burke (Scooter), William Robert Boroughs, Jr. (Jenny); sister, Mary Jane Boroughs McDevitt (Ray); grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth Russell (James), Tiffany Nicole Russell Mims (Paul), Samantha Addey Moates, Zachary Benjamin Burke (Courtney), Jacob William Burke, Anna Carroll Boroughs, William Bryce Boroughs; and eight great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Free, Zachary Burke, Jacob Burke, Bryce Boroughs, Ed Tatum and Butch Rice. Condolences may be sent to 13 Graywood Lane, Dadeville, Alabama.
