

Edwin was born March 8, 1947 in Greenville, Alabama. He grew up in the areas of Garland, McKenzie, and Georgiana (or as he would say "Georgeaner"), Alabama. At the age of 14 he learned how to be a meat cutter at Taylor's Store in Georgiana. Shortly after his high school graduation from Georgiana High School in 1966, Edwin was drafted into the Army. Edwin soon became known as Bill Butts. After his time in the Army he moved to Montgomery, Alabama where he worked in several grocery stores in Montgomery and one in Clanton, Alabama as a meat cutter. Bill also was a meat at Gunter AFB Commissary. Throughout the years and several promotions Bill became a meat and produce specialist with the Military Commissary Systems. He worked in commissaries in seven states, Cuba, Panama, And Puerto Rico. Bill retired as a GS-12 on September 11, 2001 with 30 plus years and became a "handyman".
Bill was a long time member of Perry Hill United Methodist Church in Montgomery. He love God, his family, his country, his two dogs Bindy and Molly, collage football, fishing, hunting, and Nascar racing.
Bill is proceeded in death by his parents Jesse Edward Butts and Wanda Louise (McClure) Butts. Brother James Alton Guest, several other family members and friends. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Jo Ellen (Jody) (Culp) Butts, son James D. Willis, Jr. of Millbrook, Al, son William Jason Butts (Heather) of Montgomery, daughter Edwina Jolene Butts of Montgomery, two grandsons James D. Willis III and William Curtis Willis of Millbrook, Al, brother Robert Edmund (Bobby) Guest of Montgomery, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Leak Memory in Montgomery from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday July 7 with funeral at Leak Memory Chapel Saturday July 8 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Officiating Pastors are Reverend James D. Reece (retired) and Reverend Vernie Scott.
Paul Bearers are Tommy Guest, Al Guest, Robert McClure, Evans McClure, Jason Yeomans, Lewis Popwell, Buddy Scruggs, and Richard Skipper. Honorary Paul Bearers are the men of Perry Hill UMC, Robert Pegram, Robert Watters, and all his co-workers with the Military Commissary Systems.
In lieu of flowers please give a memorial in his memory to Perry Hill United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Amedisys Hospice of Montgomery, or Montgomery Cancer Center.
